Set to Run for Incheon Mayor
Lee Hakjae, president of Incheon International Airport Corporation, who had been at odds with the Lee Jaemyung administration over issues such as airport security screening and personnel authority, is stepping down from his post.
According to Incheon International Airport Corporation on the 23rd, a farewell ceremony for President Lee is scheduled to be held on the 25th. It has been reported that he will run as a candidate for Incheon mayor in the local elections in June this year.
President Lee has been clashing with President Lee Jaemyung on social media (SNS) over a question raised by the president during a policy briefing from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, in which the president asked, "In airport security screening, people are not allowed to take more than 10,000 dollars out of the country, but I have heard claims that if you place the cash inside a bookmark and take it out, it will not be detected. Is that really the case?"
President Lee, who took office in June 2023 under the Yoon Sukyeol administration, will leave his position as head of Incheon International Airport before completing his three-year term.
