GS Engineering & Construction announced on the 23rd that, in cooperation with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the world's largest non-profit international conservation organization, it carried out the "Cheorwon Crane Birdwatching Family Program" in the Cheorwon Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) area for employees and their families with children in elementary school or younger.
The birdwatching activities were held twice in the Cheorwon-gun area of Gangwon-do, with a total of about 80 employees and family members participating. Together with WWF experts, participating employees and their families received ecological education on cranes and directly observed cranes wintering along the Hantan River and in areas near the Civilian Control Line. Through explanations of habitat conservation activities such as the removal of overhead power lines and the creation of flooded rice paddies, they gained a shared understanding of the environmental value of the DMZ ecosystem and the need for its conservation.
This event was organized as a follow-up program to the donation GS Engineering & Construction delivered to WWF Korea at the end of last year. The funds raised by employees over the past year will be used to conserve the endangered crane species that migrate to the DMZ and Cheorwon areas, as well as their habitats.
A GS Engineering & Construction representative said, "Going forward, we will continue to fulfill our corporate social responsibility to coexist with local communities through virtuous-cycle ESG social contribution activities that link donation, participation, and dissemination."
Meanwhile, GS Engineering & Construction has been steadily carrying out various social contribution activities based on partnership with local communities. Together with the Namchon Foundation, it is running the "Warm Winter" project to support child care facilities, and through social contribution programs that utilize the construction company's expertise and human resources, such as creating "Study Rooms of Dreams and Hope" and "Playgrounds of Dreams and Hope," it is helping to ensure the healthy growth of future generations in need of protection.
