Korean Film Council Indieground to Nurture Independent Film Distribution Professionals

The Korean Film Council's Indieground will begin accepting applications for the 7th class of its Distribution Academy from March 3.

Launched in 2021, this academy nurtures professionals specializing in independent and art films. For the 6th class last year, 228 people applied and fifteen completed the program. So far, eighty-nine graduates have gone on to work in the industry at distributors, film festivals, and other organizations.

This year's 7th program will delve deeply into on-site practical work. It will combine theoretical classes covering the overall industry, including planning, publicity and marketing, and ancillary markets, with analyses of actual release cases. Furthermore, a core pillar of the curriculum will be a practicum in which participants directly develop distribution and marketing proposals for independent films set for release. Even after the regular program ends, follow-up programs and field training led by graduates will be offered to further strengthen their practical capabilities.

Eligible applicants include job seekers aiming to enter the independent film industry, new employees with less than one year of experience, and related activists. In keeping with its small-elite principle, up to fifteen participants will be selected, and the tuition fee will be fully covered. Participants who complete at least 80% of the total curriculum will receive a certificate of completion from the Korean Film Council.

Applications will be accepted on the official Indieground website from March 3 to March 18.
