As a result of being selected in this contest, the city has secured 150 million won in provincial funding and plans to invest a total project cost of 500 million won to create a nightscape focusing on Gyeongan No. 1 Bridge and Gyeongan Bridge, which can be viewed from Cheongseok Park. After completing administrative procedures and budgeting, the city plans to begin the project in the second half of this year.
Cheongseok Park is a representative park located in the center of Gwangju City and is the largest park in the area, with a high utilization rate as a daily-life-oriented park. Adjacent to the Gyeongan Stream, it is a space where walking and leisure activities are actively enjoyed both day and night, and citizens have been continuously calling for improvements to the nighttime user environment.
Under the theme of "Bridge of Light, Connecting the Night of Cheongseok," this project focuses on creating a lighting landscape using the bridges, within a range that does not damage the waterfront scenery of the Gyeongan Stream. Through this, the city plans to create a pedestrian-friendly waterfront space that can be used even at night and to develop it into a representative nightscape attraction of the region.
An official from Gwangju City said, "Being selected for this contest-type project is an achievement that can simultaneously improve citizens' nighttime user environment and the city's image," adding, "We will continue to work to create an urban landscape where day and night exist in harmony."
