This project was promoted with the aim of building an experiential learning platform for medical interpretation that can provide multilingual translation and explanations by utilizing the Chat-GPT4o language model, and of developing practice-oriented content that is highly applicable in medical settings, thereby supporting learners in strengthening their medical interpretation competencies without time or space constraints.
The learning content is composed of 674 types of medical interpretation scenarios across 29 medical departments, based on a total of eight languages: English, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Arabic, Vietnamese, Thai, and Indonesian. In addition, a mini medical terminology dictionary containing 6,000 words in four languages - Korean, English, Russian, and Thai - has been created to enhance learners' understanding of specialized medical terms.
The site is implemented as a responsive web service that can be accessed on various devices such as PCs, tablets, and mobile phones, and it has secured stability and security by adopting a public cloud environment.
In particular, by integrating the Chat-GPT4o language model, the institute explained that it has improved the accuracy and naturalness of multilingual translation and explanations, and strengthened field applicability by implementing a practice-based learning structure that allows learners to virtually experience real medical interpretation situations.
Acting President Bae Namyoung of the Korea Human Resource Development Institute for Health and Welfare said, "The establishment of this AI Medical Interpretation Training Site is a case of applying AI-based digital technology to medical interpretation education, and it will contribute to fostering practical medical interpretation professionals required in the global healthcare industry," adding, "We will further enhance the educational impact through continuous advancement of content and broader utilization going forward."
