Korea Leads the "Eoljuka Trend"
First Launch Among Starbucks Stores Worldwide
Starbucks Korea is introducing a new style of iced Americano, the "Aerocano," for the first time among Starbucks stores worldwide. It has chosen the Korean market, where the so-called "Eoljuka (short for 'Iced, Even If I Freeze to Death')" culture of drinking iced coffee all year round has become firmly established, as the stage for its global debut.
Starbucks Korea announced on the 23rd that on the 26th it will launch the "Aerocano," which uses an air-aerating method that injects air into the Americano. The drink is characterized by the formation of fine foam that creates a velvety smooth texture and a light, easy finish. The company said, "Customers can enjoy the traditionally bitter and heavy taste of iced Americano in a softer and lighter flavor profile," adding, "We decided to launch it in February to reflect the characteristics of the domestic coffee market, where demand for iced beverages remains high regardless of the season."
This product will be developed as a new iced coffee category following "Iced Americano" and "Cold Brew." Over the past three years (2023-2025), iced Americanos have accounted for more than 70% of all Americanos sold at Starbucks Korea each year.
Starbucks plans to offer the Aerocano as a year-round menu item rather than a seasonal limited-time product. This is a continuation of its strategy of expanding coffee-focused offerings such as "Flat White" and "Cortado" and further segmenting its beverage lineup. It is seen as a move to strengthen beverage competitiveness by emphasizing its coffee expertise.
Meanwhile, to celebrate the launch, Starbucks will offer a free Tall-size Aerocano to the first 100 customers at its "Byuldabang" store in Seoul on the 25th. On the 28th, it will also run an event at stores nationwide, offering the same drink to the first 10 customers at each store.
