Orsted Appoints Yoo Taeseung as New Country Manager for Korea Yoo Taeseung, newly appointed head of Orsted Korea. Orsted

Orsted, the global offshore wind company headquartered in Denmark, announced on the 23rd that it has appointed Yoo Taeseung as the new Country Manager of Orsted Korea.

Yoo Taeseung, the newly appointed head of Orsted Korea, is an expert in the offshore wind sector who previously served as Co-CEO of Copenhagen Offshore Partners Korea (COP Korea) and Vice Chair of the Board of the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ECCK). He is currently serving as Chair of the Offshore Wind Alliance and Vice President of the Korean Wind Energy Society. He obtained his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in the United States.

Yoo will oversee Orsted's organization in Korea and is expected to represent Orsted in its cooperation with government agencies, business partners, and key industry stakeholders.

Per Mejnert Kristensen, Orsted's CEO for the Asia-Pacific region, said, "We are very pleased to welcome Yoo Taeseung as Orsted's Country Manager in Korea," adding, "I am confident that his outstanding leadership experience in a complex market environment and his deep understanding of the Korean renewable energy sector will provide new momentum for the organization."

Yoo Taeseung said, "It is an honor to join at such a critical moment for the Incheon Offshore Wind Project, which is Orsted's first project in Korea and a flagship initiative by the global leader in offshore wind," and added, "I will work to successfully deliver the Incheon project and to lay the foundation for Orsted to grow together with Korea's offshore wind industry over the long term."

Orsted has obtained a generation business license for a 1.4-gigawatt (GW) project and is developing an offshore wind project in waters located approximately 70 kilometers off the coast of Incheon. The installed capacity of Incheon Offshore Wind 1 is 800 megawatts (MW), and that of Incheon Offshore Wind 2 is 600 MW.

The project is currently undergoing an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and basic wind farm design while preparing for a government tender. If the development process is successfully completed and Orsted makes a Final Investment Decision (FID), the project is expected to be completed in the early 2030s. Once completed, it is expected to supply renewable energy equivalent to the electricity consumption of approximately 1 million households.

Orsted currently operates 10.2 GW of offshore wind capacity in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region and is constructing an additional 8.1 GW.
