Joo Hoyoung Stresses, "Responsibility Comes Before Political Calculations"

Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Joo Hoyoung, who has declared his candidacy for Mayor of Daegu, has published his first book and held a book concert in the 22nd year of his political career.

On the afternoon of the 22nd, Deputy Speaker Joo held a book concert at the Dynasty Hall on the second floor of Daegu Grand Hotel to mark the publication of his first book, "Joo Hoyoung's Time, and Choices." The event took the form of a talk concert, and about 3,000 citizens attended the venue.

The program began with an opening video that encapsulated his 22-year political career, followed by congratulatory remarks from key figures including former President Lee Myungbak, former National Assembly Speaker Kim Hyongo, and former Seoul National University President Sung Nak-in.

In his greeting, Deputy Speaker Joo said, "I agonized a lot over whether to publish this book." He explained the purpose of the event by adding, "There is a negative perception of publication events held by politicians, but I concluded that it was necessary to leave a record for my juniors."

The talk that day covered a wide range of topics, from his childhood and years as a legal professional, to how he entered politics, as well as his choices on pension reform and various phases of social conflict. In particular, he recalled a traffic accident he experienced while serving as a judge, the civil servant pension reform, and the process of responding to the Sewol ferry disaster and the Itaewon crowd crush, stressing his political mission by saying, "Rather than political gains and losses, these were tasks that someone had to take on immediately."

Having thrown his hat into the ring for the Daegu mayoral race, Deputy Speaker Joo also made clear his concerns about pending issues in Daegu. He said, "Daegu's GRDP has remained at the bottom level for 33 consecutive years," and emphasized, "After the integration of Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province, I will change the rules of the game and create a structure in which companies choose to come on their own."
