AI and Data Utilization Assessment Certification Granted by HIMSS
High Praise for Tangible Achievements such as the Data Platform and AI-based ECG Interpretation Software
Seoul National University Bundang Hospital announced on the 23rd that it has obtained Stage 7 certification, the highest level of the revised AMAM by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). Following King Abdulaziz Medical City in Saudi Arabia, it is the second case in the world and the first in the Asia-Pacific region.

AMAM is a model that evaluates how effectively a medical institution analyzes data generated in the course of care, research, and operations, and utilizes it for decision-making and improving the quality of care. With the introduction of the revised 2024 version, HIMSS now conducts a comprehensive assessment that goes beyond simple data possession to include actual outcomes from AI utilization in clinical settings, verification of algorithmic bias, AI governance frameworks, and a culture of data-driven decision-making.
In this assessment, the review panel highlighted the hospital's proprietary data platform, “CDW 3.0,” as a key achievement. The platform serves as a data warehouse that integrates and manages hospital data such as medical records, tests, and prescriptions, and allows for analysis. It received high marks for linking and operating clinical indicators together with AI prediction models. Based on this platform, the hospital has strengthened data transparency by publishing the “Outcome Book,” which discloses quality-of-care indicators.
Use cases of AI in emergency medical settings also drew attention. By introducing “ECG Buddy,” which uses artificial intelligence to analyze electrocardiogram results, the hospital has been able to rapidly determine the risk level of patients with heart disease and contribute to securing the critical treatment golden time.
The hospital explained that this certification is the result of international recognition for its system that enables the safe and effective use of AI. It plans to accelerate organization-wide AI transformation and promote digital healthcare innovation centered on the clinical frontline.
Song Junghan, President of Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, said, “This is a meaningful achievement in which our capabilities in data and AI have been recognized internationally,” adding, “We will actively introduce validated AI technologies into clinical practice to enhance patient safety and treatment outcomes.”
Since becoming the first institution in Korea to obtain HIMSS EMRAM Stage 7 certification in 2010, Seoul National University Bundang Hospital has maintained the certification through four cycles. It has also continued to achieve results in the field of digital healthcare by exporting its medical information systems to the Middle East, the United States, and Japan.
