Incheon City to Subsidize School Uniform Costs for Incoming Students Residing in Incheon, Regardless of School Location

Up to 310,000 Won, To Be Paid by Late June

Incheon City announced on the 23rd that it will provide financial support for school uniform purchases to middle and high school freshmen residing in Incheon, regardless of the location of their schools.

Eligible students are first-year middle or high school students who, as of their enrollment date, are registered residents of Incheon and have enrolled in a middle or high school, or in a registered alternative education institution offering a middle or high school curriculum, located in another city or province.

The amount of support will cover the actual cost of uniforms as stipulated in school regulations, up to a maximum of 310,000 won per person. However, students who have already received enrollment subsidies or school uniform purchase support from the relevant city or province, or from the competent office of education, will be excluded from this program.

Applications can be submitted through the Incheon City website from March 3 to May 29. When applying, applicants must attach the required documents, including a resident registration certificate, a certificate of enrollment, the school’s uniform regulations, a receipt for the uniform purchase (with items and amounts specified), and a copy of the bankbook.

The city will finalize the list of beneficiaries at the end of June after reviewing the documents and checking for duplicate support, and then provide the school uniform purchase subsidies.

To reduce the educational cost burden on parents, Incheon City, together with the Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education, has implemented the nation’s first free school uniform support program for middle and high schools since 2019. In addition, since 2023, it has been fully funding school uniform purchase costs with the city budget for students whose address is in Incheon but who enroll in middle or high schools in other regions.
