Daeangwa Mirae Urges People Power Party to Cut Ties with Yoon Again Faction and Cancel Disciplinary Action Against Bae Hyunjin

Daeangwa Mirae, a group of reformist lawmakers within the People Power Party, said on the 19th in connection with the court’s sentence of life imprisonment for former President Yoon Suk Yeol on charges of insurrection, "Party leader Jang Donghyuk and the rest of the party leadership must immediately sever ties with the 'Yoon Again' faction, which remains trapped in the ghosts of the past," adding, "Please cancel the disciplinary action against Assemblywoman Bae Hyunjin and demonstrate a new kind of leadership based on unity, not division."

Daeangwa Mirae held a press conference at the National Assembly in the afternoon and stated, "We deeply reflect on and repent that we failed to properly defend the constitutional order of liberal democracy during the illegal emergency martial law and the presidential impeachment process, and that we did not live up to the trust and responsibility the people had bestowed upon us, and we once again bow our heads in apology to the people," making the above remarks.

They continued, "Now our People Power Party must cross the 'river of impeachment' through soul-searching and painful self-reflection, and move toward a future of unity and innovation," and added, "We must no longer deceive the people with an ambiguous stance. In the face of the judiciary’s grave ruling that 'emergency martial law is insurrection,' the misguided alliance with far-right forces that still defend emergency martial law and chant Yoon Again and 'rigged election' will only lead to mutual destruction for conservatives."

They went on to say, "Officially declare a complete break with the Yoon Again faction and demonstrate corresponding actions. This is the last opportunity granted to us by history and by the people," adding, "If you turn away even from this opportunity, the People Power Party will face an irreparable judgment from the people as a responsible political party."
