Gumi Police Station and Compliance Support Center Strengthen Cooperation to Prevent Juvenile Crime and Curb Recidivism

Agreement to Share Emerging Crime Cases
and Closely Monitor High-Risk Repeat Offenders

Gumi Police Station in North Gyeongsang Province announced that on the 12th it held a working-level meeting between the two institutions at the Gumi Compliance Support Center to prevent juvenile crime and curb recidivism.

The meeting was arranged so that the police and the Compliance Support Center could gain a mutual understanding of each institution's work characteristics and jointly respond to increasingly sophisticated patterns of juvenile crime. School Police Officers (SPO) and staff from the Compliance Support Center attended the event and discussed practical and effective cooperation measures.

In particular, both sides shared examples of emerging juvenile crimes, such as donation fraud schemes on social media, which have recently surged among teenagers, and put their heads together to develop countermeasures. Participants agreed that rapid information sharing is of paramount importance to block new types of crime at an early stage, and they decided to operate a close inter-agency cooperation system for high-risk youths with a high likelihood of reoffending.

They also fleshed out on-site response measures for practical prevention activities. Focusing on high-risk areas within the jurisdiction, the two institutions plan to conduct regular joint patrols and to immediately connect delinquent youths, when identified, to tailored guidance and intervention programs.

To ensure that this cooperation does not remain a one-off effort but continues, the two sides agreed to hold the meetings on a regular basis and plan to pursue the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to build an even stronger safety net in the future.

The head of Gumi Police Station stated firmly, "Juvenile crime not only affects a child's entire life but also shakes the safety of the local community at its roots," adding, "Through a close hotline with the Compliance Support Center, we will promptly detect and respond to any signs of crime so that not a single child is left trapped in the mire of crime."
