164 Domestic Flights Canceled on February 8
Jeju Airport of Korea Airports Corporation announced on February 8 that it plans to operate 10 additional flights on the afternoon of the same day to transport 2,014 passengers from canceled flights caused by heavy snow and strong winds.
According to Jeju Airport, the additional flights to be operated on this day are 5 Korean Air flights, 3 Asiana Airlines flights, and 2 Jin Air flights, which will be deployed between 4:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
Among these, three Korean Air flights departing from Jeju for Gimpo after 9:40 p.m. will change their destination to Incheon Airport instead of Gimpo Airport due to the curfew time (nighttime takeoff and landing restriction) at Gimpo.
Jeju Airport had been scheduled to operate 461 flights on this day, including 226 departures and 235 arrivals, but as of 11:00 a.m., 164 domestic flights had been canceled and 5 international flights had returned due to runway snow removal work.
The heavy snow advisory issued for Jeju Airport and other northern parts of Jeju Island on this day was lifted as of 3:00 p.m. However, strong wind and sudden gust (squall) warnings remain in effect until 9:00 p.m.
On the afternoon of the same day, passengers trying to board flights crowded the passenger terminal at Jeju Airport. Jeju Island and related authorities are maintaining a precautionary posture in preparation for the possible occurrence of late-night stranded passengers at Jeju Airport.
