The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Artificial Intelligence Software Industry Association announced on February 2 that they signed an "AI Full-Stack Collaboration" Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between seven domestic AI companies and Aramco Digital in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, on February 1.
Aramco Digital is the core digital subsidiary of its parent company, Saudi Aramco, the world's largest energy company, and is leading Saudi Arabia's AI transformation. The government expects that this partnership will expand opportunities for Korean companies to participate in the adoption and application of AI across Saudi Arabia's energy, manufacturing, and other local industries.
This partnership is especially significant because it involves a consortium entering the market as a package, rather than individual companies acting alone. The participating Korean companies have divided their roles as follows: AI semiconductors (Rebellions, FuriosaAI), industry-specific AI models (NC AI, Upstage, LG AI Research Institute), LLM operation and service management (Uraacle), and cloud and AI infrastructure development (Megazone Cloud).
When Aramco Digital identifies industries such as energy and manufacturing with potential for AI utilization, the Korean consortium will provide optimized core competencies and technologies from a full-stack perspective to meet these demands. The government plans to use this initiative to showcase the integrated competitiveness of the Korean AI industry in the Middle East market together with private companies, and to establish and expand this approach as a standard model for future overseas expansion.
Ryu Jemyung, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated, "Recently, global AI evaluation agencies have clearly ranked Korea as the third-leading country in the world, reflecting unprecedented global interest in K-AI. This partnership goes beyond individual company expansion; it will serve as a critical turning point that demonstrates the competitiveness of the 'Korean AI Full-Stack' in the global market and translates it into tangible export results."
