Preliminary Heavy Snow Advisory Issued; Emergency Response to Begin
8,299 Personnel and 2,841 Snow Removal Machines Mobilized
Use Winter Equipment and Public Transportation Advised for Icy Roads
As heavy snowfall is forecast across Seoul from late at night on the 1st, the Seoul Metropolitan Government issued a preliminary heavy snow advisory on this day.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, 3 to 10 centimeters of snow are expected to accumulate from late at night until dawn, prompting the issuance of a preliminary heavy snow advisory for the entire city. The city plans to activate Level 2 of its snow response system and begin emergency snow removal work starting at 5 p.m. on the same day.
The city will take preemptive measures by using snow prediction CCTV cameras installed at five locations along the west coast to analyze the movement of snow clouds and snowfall paths in real time, and by spreading de-icing agents in advance. A total of 8,299 personnel and 2,841 pieces of snow removal equipment will be mobilized for the snow response.
The Comprehensive Snow Removal Countermeasures Situation Room will closely monitor the traffic and snow removal status in real time through CCTV cameras covering all major arterial roads in Seoul, ensuring thorough management of the snow removal process.
The city urged citizens to actively participate in clearing snow in front of their homes and stores if snow accumulates, and to use winter equipment such as tire chains or snow tires when driving on snowy or icy roads.
Han Byungyong, Director of the Disaster and Safety Office at the Seoul Metropolitan Government, stated, "We will do our utmost in snow removal operations to prevent any damage to citizens caused by the snowfall," adding, "As heavy snow is expected, there may be traffic congestion and icy roads during Monday morning commutes, so we ask everyone to use public transportation for safety."
