"Se-ri Park ♥ Seung-su Kim, Surprise Marriage Announcement."
Recently, a video claiming that golfer-turned-broadcaster Se-ri Park and actor Seung-su Kim had announced their marriage spread rapidly, especially on YouTube. Netizens flooded the comments with messages like "Congratulations" and "You look great together," showing their support.
However, upon verification, the video was revealed to be completely unrelated to the truth-a piece of 'fake news.' It was a fabricated video that skillfully combined actual images and voices of the individuals with a news format.

"Congratulations"... Netizens Fooled by Fake News
The problematic video claimed that the two had become a couple through a variety show and had officially announced their marriage on SBS News. It even added specific details, such as a private wedding ceremony being held at an undisclosed location in Seoul.
The video was crafted in a way that easily convinced viewers it was "verified information." With subtitles resembling those of real broadcasts and familiar news scripts, many users accepted it as fact. As a result, the comments section was filled with messages like "Congratulations" and "You look great together." Online, this content was replicated and redistributed across multiple platforms, being consumed as if it were an established fact.

AI-Generated 'Plausible Lies'
Such fake videos and content created with artificial intelligence (AI) are rapidly increasing these days. In the industry, this phenomenon is referred to as "AI slop." It describes the mass production and distribution of low-quality AI content at low cost, aimed at generating views and advertising revenue.
The hallmark of AI slop is that, while entirely false, it appears real. By patching together existing images, videos, and news articles into a seemingly coherent story, it clouds users' judgment. The impact is especially significant when celebrities and news formats are combined.
In Korea, Fast Consumption Means Higher Risk
Experts point out that Korea is particularly vulnerable to the spread of AI-generated content. This is due to the rapid pace of video consumption and the high proportion of information distributed via social networking services (SNS). The fact that sensational content spreads quickly through platform algorithms is also cited as a problem.
As a result, there are concerns that false information could go beyond being a mere incident and actually undermine public trust and fuel social confusion. Fake news involving celebrities not only infringes on individual reputations but also breeds distrust in all information as a side effect.
Experts stress that while technological regulation and stronger platform responsibility are important, the most crucial factor is a critical attitude from users. Verifying sources, cross-checking information, and being wary of excessively sensational headlines are no longer optional but essential.
