Residential Program with Native English Instructors
"Developing Both Global Competence and Teamwork"
Gijang County in Busan has wrapped up its youth English camp, which was held during the winter break.
On January 29, Gijang County, led by County Governor Jeong Jongbok, announced the successful completion of the "Winter Gijang Youth English Camp," an initiative aimed at enhancing global competencies. The camp, organized by Busan University of Foreign Studies, was a residential program for local elementary and middle school students, featuring real-life, practical activities with native English-speaking instructors.
The elementary school program was conducted in two sessions from January 5 to 17, each lasting 6 days and 5 nights, with a total of 240 participants. The middle school program, with 70 participants, ran for 11 days and 10 nights from January 19 to 29. All students were assigned to classes of about 12 students each, based on a pre-camp level test, allowing for tailored instruction according to their proficiency.
Each class was staffed with one native English-speaking instructor and one residential teacher, who were responsible for both academic and daily life guidance. The curriculum focused on interest-based thematic lessons and team projects to create an immersive English environment, enabling students to use English naturally.
In particular, a variety of project-based activities that required collaboration with peers not only improved students' English skills but also fostered teamwork and social skills, resulting in high satisfaction among both participants and their parents.
Jeong Jongbok, Governor of Gijang County, stated, "I am very pleased that the students were able to complete the camp safely and in good health despite the cold weather. I hope that the experiences gained through this English camp will serve as a valuable foundation for our children to grow into global talents who pursue their dreams on the world stage."
