Xdubai Collaborates with Dubai Government for the Flight
Flying Through the 377-Meter Skyscraper's "Eye of the Needle" Hole
In the United Arab Emirates (UAE), wingsuit athletes performed a breathtaking acrobatic flight between skyscrapers.
According to local UAE media such as Gulf News on the 27th (local time), Xdubai, in collaboration with the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, held a wingsuit airshow at the Ciel Dubai Marina Hotel on the 22nd. Xdubai is a company specializing in extreme sports, including wingsuit flying.
The Ciel Dubai Marina Hotel is a skyscraper standing 377 meters tall with 82 floors above ground. It is currently known as the tallest hotel in the world. The building is also famous for its unique design, featuring a hole in the center of its sky observation deck. This hole, resembling the eye of a needle, earned the nickname "Eye of the Needle" during the architectural design stage.
Wingsuit athletes from Xdubai showcased a thrilling flight by passing through this Eye of the Needle. Notably, the leading athlete reportedly flew through the hole at a speed of 200 kilometers per hour.
After the successful flight by the wingsuit athletes, Aida Al Busaidy, Vice President at the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, emphasized, "This airshow demonstrates Dubai's innovation and focus on large-scale development."
A wingsuit is a special jumpsuit with fabric membranes between the arms, legs, and torso. It is designed to allow athletes to glide through the air like a flying squirrel. Wingsuit athletes put on the suit and jump from high places to perform aerial gliding maneuvers.
