Now Farmers Can Tend Fields by Talking to AI... Daedong to Launch Service in Q2

Jointly Developed with Naver Cloud
AI Call-Based Farming Journal Service

The era has arrived where farmers can converse with artificial intelligence (AI) over the phone while tending to their fields. AI does more than simply provide agricultural information; it engages in friendly, everyday conversations with farmers and uses the information collected to create farming journals.

According to Daedong, an agricultural company, an AI call-based farming journal service will be added to the 'Daedong Connect' application during the second quarter of this year. Daedong Connect was initially launched as a service for remotely controlling and managing agricultural machinery via mobile devices. With the integration of AI technology, it has evolved into an agricultural platform. As of last year, the number of subscribers surpassed 40,000.

The AI call-based farming journal being introduced was jointly developed by Daedong and Naver Cloud. The core feature is that AI makes phone calls to farmers, analyzes the conversations, and then creates farming journals to assist with farm planning and operations.

Now Farmers Can Tend Fields by Talking to AI... Daedong to Launch Service in Q2 On the 22nd, attendees of the performance report event for the smart agriculture cooperation council between Daedong and the Rural Development Administration, held at Daedong Seoul Office in Seocho-gu, Seoul, are taking a commemorative photo. In the initial phase, the AI will call farmers once or twice a week. After naturally exchanging greetings and discussing their work, the AI will automatically record this data in the farming journal. This means that every farmer will have a personalized AI agent. Daedong explained that they have incorporated Naver's advanced AI voice recognition technology to accurately understand various regional dialects, ensuring that farmers do not feel uncomfortable or unfamiliar with the service.

Initially, the AI agent will focus on conversing and generating farming journals based on those interactions. However, Daedong's goal is to eventually provide solutions that cover the entire agricultural process. This includes offering tailored agricultural information such as pest and disease alerts, weather forecasts, government subsidy details, and even professional prescriptions related to farming tasks.

To achieve this, Daedong has enhanced its generative AI, 'AI Daedongi', within the Connect app by training it on farming data from the Rural Development Administration, thereby advancing its agriculture-specific consultation capabilities. The company explained that by comprehensively learning about pests and diseases, cultivation techniques, and literature for 12 major crops, the accuracy of consultations has improved. They have also developed and implemented an AI-based agricultural disaster prediction service that provides alerts up to 10 days in advance and offers step-by-step guidelines for each cultivation stage. As a result, by last year, AI Daedongi had received more than 100,000 cumulative inquiries, with over 8,000 consultations per month on average, indicating a rapid increase in demand for farming advice.

With this expansion of AI services, Daedong plans to maximize the productivity and sustainability of farms in the mid- to long-term by integrating with physical AI technologies such as autonomous agricultural machinery and farming robots. A Daedong representative stated, "By making AI easily and quickly accessible to Korean farmers, we aim to enhance productivity and efficiency in the agricultural field and contribute to a tangible increase in farm income."
