Gyeonggi Tourism Organization to Develop Pyeonghwa Nuri Camping Site as a Stay-Type Tourist Attraction

Gyeonggi Tourism Organization will develop the 'Pyeonghwa Nuri Camping Site' as a stay-type tourist attraction this year.

On January 22, Gyeonggi Tourism Organization announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with 31 major inbound travel agencies in Korea at Pyeonghwa Nuri in Imjingak, Paju.

This agreement is a continuation of the inbound tourism cooperation efforts that have been underway since the direct management transition of Pyeonghwa Nuri Camping Site in 2024.

Until now, Gyeonggi Tourism Organization has continuously worked to address the lack of accommodation infrastructure in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) and northern Gyeonggi region through collaboration with travel agencies. By developing DMZ tourism packages linked to Pyeonghwa Nuri Camping Site, the organization attracted over 1,600 foreign tourists last year and aims to reach 3,000 this year.

In particular, starting this year, the organization plans to actively introduce new facilities and a variety of experiential content to Pyeonghwa Nuri Camping Site, transforming it from a simple lodging space into a camping site where visitors can truly enjoy their stay.

First, nine new caravans will be introduced in the first half of the year, and major facilities such as the convenience building showers will be remodeled to create a comfortable and safe camping environment.

In addition, specialized experiential content such as a 'caravan escape room game,' 'caravan arcade,' 'caravan playroom,' and 'outdoor camping cinema' will be introduced in stages to offer both domestic and international tourists a differentiated experience.

An official from Gyeonggi Tourism Organization stated, "In the early stages of operation in 2024, there were only five partner travel agencies developing foreign tourist packages linked to Pyeonghwa Nuri Camping Site, but thanks to extensive promotional activities, this number has increased sixfold to 31 this year. We will continue to create a sustainable tourism model so that Pyeonghwa Nuri Camping Site can truly become a leading stay-type tourism hub in northern Gyeonggi."
