Geochang County Accelerates Efforts to Improve Living Environment with Food Waste Reduction Device Support

Geochang County in South Gyeongsang Province announced on January 21 that it will implement the "2026 Household Food Waste Reduction Device Installation Support Project."

This project was established to alleviate the financial burden on residents caused by the high cost of purchasing reduction devices and to improve the convenience of daily life in areas where food waste is not collected. Since its launch in 2024, the project supplied devices to 107 households in its first year and received a positive response. This year, a total of 100 devices will be distributed.

Eligible applicants are residents who are registered in Geochang County as of the announcement date, with priority given based on whether they live in areas without food waste collection and the number of household members. Up to 200,000 won, or 50% of the purchase price, will be subsidized, and each household may apply for only one device.

Those wishing to participate must visit the Resource Circulation Division of the Geochang County Environment Department with the required documents by February 27 to apply.

An official from the county stated, "This project has proven to be effective in reducing food waste and has a high level of resident satisfaction," adding, "We will continue our efforts to promote food waste reduction projects that more county residents can participate in."
