Two Locations Served 6,000 Visitors Last Year
Jungnang-gu in Seoul (District Mayor Ryu Gyeonggi) will extend the operation of its shelters for mobile workers through Saturday to prepare for the severe cold wave.
To protect the health and safety of mobile workers such as delivery and courier workers, the district will temporarily add Saturday operations from January 17 to February 28. Previously open only on weekdays, the shelters will now be available on weekends as well, allowing field workers to use them throughout the week.
Currently, there are two mobile worker shelters operating in Jungnang-gu. The first location is at 29 Jungnangyeok-ro 4-gil (Junghwa-dong), and the second at 92 Yangwonyeok-ro (Mangwoo-dong). The shelters are open from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on weekdays, and any mobile worker is free to use them.
The shelters are equipped with amenities that reflect the actual needs of mobile workers, including heating and cooling systems, mobile phone chargers, computers, water dispensers for both hot and cold water, and helmet dryers.
Last year, the total number of visitors to Jungnang-gu's mobile worker shelters reached approximately 6,200. In addition to delivery and courier workers, a variety of mobile workers such as care assistants, gas inspectors, and care providers used the shelters.
Ryu Gyeonggi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, stated, "The mobile worker shelters are more than just places for rest-they are a minimum social safety net where workers can recharge and rest safely. We will continue to closely monitor the working conditions of mobile workers and expand policies that reflect the voices from the field."
