Gyeonggi Provincial Library is officially launching its artificial intelligence (AI)-based library services.
Opened in October last year under the theme of “The Experimental AI Library,” Gyeonggi Provincial Library has developed programs that integrate AI into all aspects of library services, including reading, counseling, discussion, and recommendations.
After completing a two-month pilot operation, Gyeonggi Provincial Library has established a formal AI service system that reflects user feedback and operational experience, and will begin offering these services this year.
■ “AI Studio” - Free Access to Over 60 AI Models
Any member of Gyeonggi Provincial Library aged 18 or older can use a variety of paid AI tools to create digital content. The number of AI models, which was around 30 across 8 platforms at the time of opening, has expanded to over 60 more advanced models this year, including Nanobanana, Gemini 3 Pro, Veo 3.1, and Sora 2 Pro.
The AI Studio is located on the first basement floor. Visitors can use the studio by reserving a seat after arriving at the library. The standard seat usage time is one hour, and the focused work area can be used for two hours. If there are no people waiting, the usage time can be extended by up to one additional hour.
■ “AI Mind Drawing x Book” - Bibliotherapy That Reads Children’s Emotions Through Their Drawings
“AI Mind Drawing x Book” is a bibliotherapy service where AI analyzes a child’s drawing to assess their psychological state and recommends books accordingly. The analysis is based on the drawing’s shape, color, composition, and more, with psychological counseling experts participating as advisors during development.
The service operates from Tuesday to Friday, 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and is extended from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekends and during vacation periods (July-August, December-February). The service is not available on Mondays and public holidays.
The target users are children aged 5 to 12. Reservations can be made in advance through the Gyeonggi Provincial Library website. If there are no people waiting, on-site registration is also possible. Reservations can be made using the child’s ID or, on behalf of up to two children, using a guardian’s member ID.
Children draw pictures with the provided materials, then scan and upload their drawings under the guidance of a manager to receive an analysis. The results can be sent by email or printed, and the recommended books can be viewed directly at the “World Friends Book Village” on the library’s second floor.
■ “AI Reading Discussion” - Revisiting Classics with AI
AI Reading Discussion is a new type of book discussion program in which both AI and a reading instructor participate. To accommodate the nature of AI learning, the discussions focus on classics whose copyrights have expired.
The goal is to increase young people’s interest in classic literature and provide adults with new interpretations of the classics. The program is designed to allow even first-time participants to join without pressure.
The program is open to teens and adults, and applications can be made through the “Library Program” section of the Gyeonggi Provincial Library website. Sessions will be held twice a month.
This year, in addition to the existing voice-based discussions, a chat-based discussion format will also be introduced.
■ “AI Book Recommendation Service” - Selecting Books Based on Weather and Season
The AI Book Recommendation Service is available at all times on the main page of the Gyeonggi Provincial Library website. The AI generates sentences and recommends books by reflecting the season, weather, and the library’s key content areas (such as climate environment, AI, future technology, etc.).
Example hashtags for January 2026 recommendations include “#BooksForWarmBangkokTime” and “#PracticalBooksForNewYearResolutions.”
■ “AI Live Chat” Virtual Librarian and AI Competency Training for Residents
AI Live Chat is a chatbot service that provides real-time answers not only to book searches and recommendations but also to questions about how to use the library and its services. Anyone can use it from the main page of the Gyeonggi Provincial Library website.
In addition, AI literacy education courses are offered to help residents improve their AI skills. There are courses tailored by age group for children, teens, and adults, as well as new specialized courses for seniors, working professionals, and creators.
One-day classes and family experience programs that allow users to easily experience AI will also be introduced sequentially. The nationwide AI content creation contest, which has been running since 2024, will continue as well.
Yoon Myunghee, Director of Gyeonggi Provincial Library, said, “In an era where AI has become an everyday tool, libraries must become spaces where residents can understand and directly utilize AI. As a public library specializing in AI, Gyeonggi Provincial Library will continue to experiment with and expand new library service models.”
