Jeju Samdasoo Reduces 330ml Bottle Weight by 14%... "180 Tons of Plastic Saved Annually"

Further Reduction in Bottle Weight Following Last Year’s Company-wide Effort
Expected to Cut Carbon Emissions by 430 Tons

Jeju Development Corporation, the producer and distributor of Jeju Samdasoo, announced on January 20 that it has succeeded in further reducing the weight of the 330ml Jeju Samdasoo bottle by approximately 14%.

Last year, Jeju Development Corporation reduced the weight of all Jeju Samdasoo bottle types by about 12%, achieving an annual reduction of approximately 3,000 tons of plastic usage. Building on this, the company further improved the 330ml bottle design to enhance both environmental performance and consumer convenience, as part of its ongoing commitment to eco-friendly production innovation.

As a result, the weight of the 330ml Jeju Samdasoo bottle was reduced by about 14% compared to the previous version. This is expected to cut annual plastic usage by around 180 tons and reduce carbon emissions by approximately 430 tons per year.

In addition, by narrowing the bottle’s width, portability and convenience have been improved. At the same time, product stacking efficiency has increased by about 20%, which is expected to lead to fewer logistics trips and further reductions in carbon emissions, contributing to logistics innovation. The newly lightweight 330ml product will be officially launched and made available to consumers starting this month.

Baek Kyunghoon, CEO of Jeju Development Corporation, stated, "This additional innovation for the 330ml product, following last year’s weight reduction, demonstrates the company’s consistent and strong commitment to realizing ‘Plastic Zero Jeju 2040.’ We will continue to lead the development of sustainable products that maintain the quality consumers trust while minimizing environmental impact."

Meanwhile, Jeju Development Corporation is also practicing eco-friendly management by applying 10% recycled materials to all Jeju Samdasoo bottle types from this year in response to changes in environmental policy.
