Min Kyungseon: "Shincheonji's Organized Party Membership Is a Betrayal of Goyang Citizens and a Threat to Democracy"

Min Kyungseon, Former President of Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation, Issues Statement

Min Kyungseon (photo), former President of the Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation, issued a strong statement condemning the recent allegations reported in the media regarding the organized political party membership and address change instructions by the Shincheonji Church.

Min Kyungseon: "Shincheonji's Organized Party Membership Is a Betrayal of Goyang Citizens and a Threat to Democracy"

On the 19th, in a statement, Min said, "Shincheonji's directive for its followers to join a specific political party and for members from other regions to change their registered addresses to Goyang City, as a retaliatory response to the failed attempt to establish a religious facility in Goyang, is a shameless scheme that shakes the very foundation of democracy."

He characterized the situation as "pressure to distort administrative decisions in Goyang City" and "an attempt to seize control of local politics," and clearly outlined three key demands.

Min emphasized, "Goyang City is not a playground for any particular religious group to flaunt its power." He continued, "Shincheonji's explicit directive to change addresses to meet a target number is a clear act of election interference aimed at distorting the will of Goyang's 1.08 million citizens. Attempting to overturn a decision that was rightfully rejected by residents through sheer numbers is a betrayal of the citizens."

He also called on the People Power Party to "explain to the public any suspected collusion with Shincheonji." Min stated, "Since the 2022 presidential election, allegations of mass party membership have repeatedly surfaced and are now being confirmed. The People Power Party must clarify to the citizens of Goyang whether they knowingly condoned these abnormal memberships or turned a blind eye for electoral gain."

Min urged investigative authorities to "thoroughly uncover the reality of corruption involving collusion between religious groups and politics." He added, "Forcing party membership without the individual's consent is a violation of the Political Parties Act. The joint investigation team of prosecutors and police must investigate the revealed Telegram instructions and address manipulation allegations without leaving any doubts, and punish those responsible severely."

Recalling his time as President of Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation, when he turned a deficit into a surplus, Min stressed, "Just as transportation policy must be transparent, so too must politics be honest." He added, "Administration should be based on principles and competence, not the pressure of specific groups. I will continue to move forward to create a clean Goyang City, uncompromising against any forces that disrupt the daily lives of its citizens, like the horn of a bull."

Min Kyungseon is a three-term former member of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council, having served as Chair of the Education Committee, and until recently was President of the Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation. He is recognized as an expert in transportation and administration, having demonstrated practical administrative capability through achievements such as the success of the "Ttokbus" project and turning the corporation's finances into a surplus.
