On January 19, Mokpo City, South Jeolla Province, held an inspection meeting on current issues in the island areas, presided over by Acting Mayor Cho Seokhoon, to review measures for improving living conditions and revitalizing tourism in the islands under its jurisdiction.

According to the city, this meeting was the third session of area-specific issue inspections being carried out as part of the "Mokpo Big Picture Project." The meeting covered 14 major projects that are either underway or planned for the island areas, including Goha-do, Dalli-do, Oedal-do, and Jangjwa-do.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Mayor, relevant directors, and department heads, who shared the progress and future plans for each project. Discussions focused on expanding residential infrastructure linked to residents' daily lives and strategies for utilizing tourism resources.

In Goha-do, the main topics of inspection included the construction of the National Sewol Ferry Memorial Hall, the creation of a marine deck and coastal cave exploration trail, the Fishing Village New Deal 300 project, and the establishment of a sea fishing park.

For Dalli-do and Oedal-do, discussions addressed plans to improve accessibility through the installation of a pedestrian bridge connecting Dalli-do and Oedal-do and the maintenance of the coastal access road. Additional topics included the "Island You Want to Visit" project in Oedal-do, the creation of a botanic garden, and the expansion of stay-type tourism infrastructure such as a seawater pool and beach operations.

In Jangjwa-do, the focus was on the development of a marine tourism resort, with discussions on expanding tourist stays and revitalizing the local economy.

The city plans to gradually resolve inconveniences in the daily lives of island residents and improve basic infrastructure, while also managing projects to connect unique island resources with tourism content that can contribute to the local economy.

During the meeting, Acting Mayor Cho Seokhoon emphasized the need for the seamless implementation of island area projects and the importance of linking them with national initiatives.
