The Agricultural Technology Center of Damyang County, Jeonnam, will officially operate the “Agricultural By-Product Shredding Support Team” to reduce fine dust and prevent wildfires.

According to Damyang County on January 19, the Agricultural Technology Center will launch a shredding support project starting in February to safely process by-products generated after farming activities.

This project aims to prevent the traditional burning of agricultural by-products, thereby reducing the generation of fine dust and proactively eliminating potential wildfire risks in the spring. The shredded by-products are expected to be returned to farmland as compost, contributing to resource-circulating agriculture by improving soil fertility.

In particular, the county has allocated a total project budget of 130 million won for this year, an increase of 30 million won compared to last year. With this, the county plans to support the shredding of agricultural by-products over approximately 90 hectares.

The support team will operate intensively during the key wildfire prevention periods, from February to May and from November to December. Priority support will be given to areas within 100 meters of forest boundaries and to vulnerable farming households, such as elderly and female farmers.

Farmers wishing to receive shredding support can apply through the industrial team at their local town or township office by early February.

Kim Nabina, Director of the Damyang County Agricultural Technology Center, stated, “Supporting the shredding of agricultural by-products is a win-win solution that prevents fine dust and wildfires while also reducing the farming burden on households. We ask for the keen interest and active participation of local farmers.”
