On January 15, Mungyeong City held the “Appointment Ceremony for New Athletes of the Mungyeong City Hall Professional Sports Team” in the city hall’s main conference room, presenting appointment certificates to a total of nine new athletes: three in soft tennis, two in track and field, and four in ssireum. The event was attended by 42 coaches and athletes, who celebrated this new beginning together.

The newly appointed athletes expressed their pride and sense of responsibility as members of the Mungyeong City Hall professional sports team, vowing in unison to win at various domestic and international competitions this year. In particular, they showed strong determination, stating, “We will put our utmost effort into every training session to enhance the honor of Mungyeong City.”

With these new additions, Mungyeong City plans to further strengthen its competitiveness on the national stage while accelerating efforts to boost its international standing.

In particular, the city has set a medium- to long-term goal of participating in the “20th Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games,” scheduled to be held in Japan in September 2026. To this end, it will implement systematic training, performance management, and enhanced readiness for international competitions.

Shin Hyun-guk, Mayor of Mungyeong, stated, “The professional sports team is the pride and hope of Mungyeong citizens. Every drop of sweat shed by our athletes will ultimately lead to achievements that shine a light on the name of Mungyeong.”

He continued, “I hope our athletes will take on the greater challenge of the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan without wavering, and we will continue to provide unwavering support so they can perform at their best.”
