"Couldn't Get One Again This Year"... 72,000-Won 'This Bag' Sells Out from Early Morning

Despite Price Increase, Most Stores Sold Out on First Day
Resale Prices Reach 100,000 Won... Mixed Reactions Over Contents

The "2026 Lucky Bag" introduced by Starbucks on January 15 quickly sold out as soon as sales began, once again proving its high popularity this year. At some locations, all available stock was gone immediately after opening, creating what is known as an "open run" scene, and in the secondhand market, some bags were sold at a premium.

On January 15, Starbucks released the "Starbucks Lucky Bag" at stores nationwide. The Lucky Bag is a limited-edition product that Starbucks has launched annually since 2007, featuring a random assortment of merchandise such as tumblers and mugs. The contents cannot be checked prior to purchase.

Sold Out Immediately After Opening... Another Year of Open Runs

As sales began, customers lined up outside stores nationwide even before opening hours, and most locations sold out of their allotted stock immediately after opening on the first day. The exact number of units sold was not disclosed.

This year’s Lucky Bag is priced at 72,000 won, an increase of 4,000 won from the previous year. The contents include a total of seven items: two stainless steel tumblers, three items among plastic tumblers, bags, or keychain accessories, one mug or glass, and one Origami coffee. Including the backpack, the total comes to eight items. In some Lucky Bags, four free beverage coupons are randomly included.

Every year, some consumers point out that the bags are mainly used to clear out last season’s stock, but demand remains high, as evidenced by the sold-out status on the first day. Starbucks stated, "From the consumer’s perspective, the contents are worth more than three times the selling price."

The popularity was also evident in the secondhand market. On the day of release, Lucky Bags were traded for between 90,000 and 100,000 won on secondhand platforms such as Bungejangter and Danggeun Market. Some sellers separated the bag and sold it alone for around 20,000 won.

Reviews spread rapidly on social networking services (SNS). Some users shared photos of the contents along with comments such as, "I arrived at 6:40 a.m. and there was only one left," "I wondered why people would do an open run for this, but I got first place and bought one," and "The store opened at 6 a.m., but almost everything was already gone."

On the other hand, there were also many disappointed reactions regarding the contents. Comments included, "I did an open run, but it felt like just clearing out old stock," "I was disappointed because there were no free beverage coupons," and "I bought it every year, but this time it didn’t live up to my expectations."
