Busan Port Authority and Pusan National University Join Hands for Port and Logistics Industry-Academia Cooperation

Fostering Talent and Joint Research in International Logistics
Collaboration on New Projects Including Arctic Shipping Routes

Busan Port Authority (BPA) and Pusan National University have joined forces to establish an industry-academia cooperation network aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of the port and logistics industries.

On January 15, Busan Port Authority announced that it had signed a "business agreement for the establishment of an industry-academia cooperation network" with Pusan National University at the BPA headquarters.

This agreement was designed to foster the development of related industries by nurturing professionals and strengthening research and technological collaboration necessary for the advancement of the port and logistics sectors, as well as to promote mutual growth between the two organizations.

Under the agreement, the two institutions will work together to: △ establish and activate an industry-academia cooperation network; △ mutually collaborate on research activities and the exchange of technology and information; and △ conduct joint research in international logistics and cooperate on new projects such as Arctic shipping routes.

Busan Port Authority possesses extensive on-site experience and a global network accumulated through port operation and development, while Pusan National University boasts strong research capabilities and educational infrastructure, particularly in the maritime and logistics fields. With this agreement, it is expected that the combination of practical field experience from the port and logistics sector and the academic strengths of the university will accelerate the cultivation of talent ready for immediate deployment in the industry and the generation of research outcomes.

Song Sanggeun, President of Busan Port Authority, stated, "Celebrating the 150th anniversary of Busan Port, which is the world's second-largest transshipment port and a key pillar of the regional economy, we are at a critical juncture where we must prepare for the next 150 years amid rapidly changing international circumstances, digital AI transformation, and the shift toward decarbonization."

He added, "I hope this agreement will serve as a meaningful starting point that leads to ongoing exchanges and tangible results, contributing not only to the joint development of both institutions but also to enhancing the competitiveness of the port and logistics industry in Busan and across the nation."
