Kim Kyung, a Seoul Metropolitan Council member, appeared before the police again three days after being accused of giving a 100 million won bribe to independent lawmaker Kang Sunwoo.
The Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency summoned Councilman Kim on the morning of January 15 as a suspect on charges including bribery.
Arriving at the police station around 9 a.m. that day, Councilman Kim said, "I sincerely apologize for causing public concern," and added, "I will answer all questions truthfully and cooperate fully with the investigation."
However, Councilman Kim did not respond to reporters' questions such as "Did you deliver 100 million won to Assemblyman Kang?", "Was Assemblyman Kang present when you handed it over?", and "Why did you rejoin Telegram?"
Councilman Kim is suspected of handing over 100 million won through Nam, then chief secretary of Assemblyman Kang's office, ahead of the 2022 local elections. Subsequently, Councilman Kim was confirmed as the sole candidate during a nomination committee meeting attended by Assemblyman Kang.
After the police investigation began, Councilman Kim left for the United States, but returned to Korea on January 11 and was questioned by the police from late that night until the early morning of January 12.
