Securing the Critical Golden Time for Initial Wildfire Suppression Response
Sacheon City in South Gyeongsang Province announced on January 15 that it has opened and begun full-scale operation of a dedicated Wildfire Response Center to proactively address large-scale wildfires.
The city held an opening ceremony for the Sacheon City Wildfire Response Center to strengthen rapid and systematic initial response to wildfires and to improve the working conditions of wildfire suppression personnel.
Approximately 80 people attended the opening ceremony, including Mayor Park Dongsik, the Vice Chairman of the Sacheon City Council, provincial and city council members, the Sacheon Fire Station Chief, the Head of the Sacheon City Forestry Cooperative, the President of the Volunteer Fire Brigade Association, and specialized wildfire prevention and suppression personnel, all celebrating the launch of the newly constructed Wildfire Response Center.
The newly completed Wildfire Response Center was built behind City Hall with a total project cost of 550 million won. The facility consists of a single general steel-frame building with a total area of 135.42 square meters and will serve as the control tower for wildfire response.
The Wildfire Response Center is equipped with essential functions for wildfire response, including a lounge and meeting room, storage for personal firefighting equipment, showers, and changing rooms. These features enable rapid dissemination of information and efficient management of personnel and equipment during wildfire incidents.
In particular, the center is expected to significantly boost morale and ensure the safety of on-site response personnel by providing comfortable rest areas and convenient facilities for specialized wildfire prevention and suppression teams, who have previously worked under challenging conditions.
Mayor Park Dongsik stated, "With the increasing risk of large-scale and simultaneous wildfires due to recent climate change, the construction of the Wildfire Response Center marks an important turning point in advancing our wildfire response system. We will continue to strengthen our infrastructure and support personnel to enhance wildfire prevention and initial response capabilities."
He added, "This new Wildfire Response Center will serve as a cornerstone for strengthening Sacheon City's wildfire response capabilities, protecting the precious lives and property of our citizens, minimizing wildfire damage, and contributing to forest conservation. I also urge that the safety management of wildfire suppression personnel be carried out without any negligence."
