MotorTrend is the largest automotive media group in the United States, established in 1949. It exerts significant influence in the market by hosting various award ceremonies, including the highly respected 'Car of the Year' award, which is widely recognized within the automotive industry.

The SDV Innovator Awards, which LG Electronics received, are presented to individuals who have driven innovation in the field of Software-Defined Vehicles (SDV). This year marks the fourth edition of the awards.

Kim Kyungrak, Executive Vice President and Display Development Leader of the Vehicle Components Business Division at LG Electronics, was honored in the 'Pioneer' category at this year's ceremony. He was highly praised for advancing vehicle displays beyond simple display devices to intelligent interfaces, a core element of software-defined vehicles. Last year, Eun Seokhyeon, President and Head of the Vehicle Components Business Division, received the award in the 'Leader' category for leading SDV-related automotive industry trends.

The primary reason cited for this year's award is the implementation of 'Shy Tech' through the 'bendable moving display.' This technology allows the lower part of the screen to be folded back and hidden when not in use, and unfolded to serve as a large display when needed. This display, which satisfies both the design completeness and functionality within the vehicle, is expected to be installed in premium mass-produced vehicles in the future.

In addition, LG Electronics plans to accelerate innovation in next-generation display technologies based on optical technology. Notable examples include the 'Wide Hover Screen,' which delivers high-brightness images on the front glass without a black screen, and the 'ultra-light augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD),' which adjusts focus according to the driver's gaze.

LG Electronics aims to lead the future mobility solutions sector through technological innovation from SDV to AIDV. At 'CES 2026' held in Las Vegas, the company unveiled its latest AIDV technologies. These include the 'display solution,' which expands the interface across the entire driver's seat by applying a transparent OLED display to the front glass; the 'vision solution,' which provides various safety and convenience information based on the driver's and passenger's gaze using vision AI; and the 'entertainment solution,' which offers tailored services such as content, video calls, and translation for rear-seat passengers through AI curation. The company also introduced the 'AI Cabin Platform,' an on-device AI solution for vehicles, to its automaker clients.

Through its 'LG Alphaware' solution for SDV transition, LG Electronics has also strengthened its core competencies in SDV, including in-vehicle infotainment (IVI), displays, software, telematics, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). LG Alphaware consists of 'Playware,' 'Metaware,' and 'Visionware.' Playware is an in-vehicle entertainment solution that provides high-definition and high-quality audio content experiences. Metaware uses AR/MR technology to deliver immersive, useful information to drivers, such as navigation and road hazards. Visionware analyzes passenger behavior using AI algorithms and camera sensors to prevent accidents through in-cabin sensing and assists driving with features such as lane departure prevention.

Additionally, LG Electronics has realized its vision for future mobility by applying its in-vehicle webOS content platform (ACP) to commercial electric vehicles for the first time, transforming vehicles into 'living spaces on wheels.' ACP extends the diverse customer experiences offered by LG Electronics' proprietary smart TV platform webOS to the vehicle interior, delivering a more differentiated mobility experience with a wide range of premium content, including LG Channels.

Eun Seokhyeon, President and Head of the Vehicle Components Business Division at LG Electronics, stated, "By analyzing the surrounding environment and passenger status in real time to provide a safer and more convenient mobility experience, we will lead the era beyond SDV to AIDV."
