"Will You Take Responsibility If My Dog Gets Hurt?"... Pet Owners Demand Ban on Calcium Chloride

"Claims That Calcium Chloride Can Cause Burns"
Internet Users Respond: "Clean the Snow Yourself"

Controversy has arisen as some residents who own pets in an apartment complex have filed complaints requesting that calcium chloride not be spread for snow removal. They argue that the coarse particles of calcium chloride could injure their dogs during walks.

On January 13, a post titled "Dog Owners Who Filed Complaints Against Spreading Calcium Chloride on Walking Paths" was uploaded to an online community. The author began by stating, "Residents who own pets in our apartment complex have filed complaints asking not to spread calcium chloride on the walking paths."

The post continued, "They collectively protested to the management office, saying that only the roads and parking lots should be treated, not the walking paths, because their dogs suffer burns and pain on their paws. But the walking paths also get slippery when it snows, so what kind of mindset is behind filing a complaint against spreading calcium chloride there?"

The author further explained, "The pet owners argued that since the walking paths are flat and not many people use them when it snows, there's no need to spread it, and asked if the management would take responsibility if their dogs' paws were injured. When the management office responded that accidents could happen if they don't spread it, the pet owners insisted that only a very small amount should be used." It was reported that, upon learning of this, other residents are now encouraging the management to spread plenty of calcium chloride on the walking paths as well, and heated debates are taking place in the residents' group chat.

Netizens who read the story also expressed disbelief, commenting, "Why don't the opposing dog owners just sweep the snow off themselves so it doesn't pile up?", "I wish there were separate villages for people with dogs," and "I also have a dog, but its paws have never been burned by that."
