The "Co-sleeping" Trend Grows as Parents and Children Share One Bed
Simmons Draws Attention with Step-by-Step Options Like Tan, Convi, and Lillian
Recently, the trend of "co-sleeping" has become increasingly prominent among couples raising infants and toddlers, leading to a growing demand for bed frames that can be configured as family beds. Co-sleeping refers to a sleeping arrangement in which children and parents share the same bed.
According to a joint study conducted last year by Professor Seo Suyeon’s research team from the Department of Psychology at Sungshin Women’s University and Monash University in Australia, 85% of Korean parents with 12-month-old infants preferred co-sleeping. This figure is significantly higher than in the United States (6%) and Australia (31%). Professor Seo explained, "In households with first-time parents or children under the age of three, the practice of sleeping together has long been established to ensure the child’s safety and emotional stability."
Amid this trend, younger consumers are showing interest in bed frames made from materials and structures with proven safety, as well as designs that provide psychological comfort.
Simmons, a sleep-specialized brand, has gained attention among consumers seeking co-sleeping solutions as a "go-to brand for family beds." Simmons offers a variety of sleep environments tailored to family composition and growth stages, including models such as "Tan," "Convi," and "Lillian."
The low-profile bed frame "Tan" features a wood texture and a highly versatile design, making it suitable for use with young children. In December of last year, its sales increased by 50% compared to its launch month in February, demonstrating its steady popularity as a low-profile family bed. The product is available in three types: the "basic type" with no headboard, the "sleek head type" for comfortable reclining, and the "storage head type" with adjustable shelf height.
Another low-profile bed frame, "Convi," features a natural oak color that creates a warm atmosphere. Depending on user preference, the extra space on the side of the frame can be used as a shelf for books, toys, and other items, allowing for a customizable family bed environment.
"Lillian," designed for young children, is a temporary-style low-profile family frame. It is designed to be separated or combined according to the number of family members. It can be widely used as a newlywed bed, a baby bed for newborns, a family bed, and later as a child’s bed after sleep independence. By adding a dedicated light gray side guard, it can be transformed into a bumper-type bed to prevent accidents such as falls. This guard features an easy-clean function that is resistant to everyday spills and stains.
Simmons has recently strengthened its family bed lineup by introducing the new "Flato" frame, which features an even more streamlined design. "Flato" adopts a "Zen" style low-profile design inspired by refined and restrained Eastern aesthetics. The frame is designed with a height of 6.4 cm, making it easy for young children to use, and its structure seamlessly connects to the floor, providing a sense of openness and efficient space utilization. The product is available in five sizes: Super Single (SS), Queen (QE), Large King (LK), King of King (KK), and Great King (GK). Depending on the bedroom environment, these sizes can be selected and combined, and as the child grows, the beds can be separated for individual use.
