Superintendents Kim Daejung and Lee Jungseon Issue Joint Declaration
"Education Is the Key Driving Force for Successful Integration"
The Jeonnam Office of Education and the Gwangju Office of Education announced on January 12 that they are actively supporting the 'Gwangju-Jeonnam Administrative Integration' as a means to overcome the crisis of regional extinction, and have agreed to work closely together for a successful integration.
On the morning of the same day, Kim Daejung, Superintendent of Education for Jeonnam, and Lee Jungseon, Superintendent of Education for Gwangju, adopted a joint statement at the Gwangju Office of Education. They reached a consensus that education must be the key driving force in realizing the value of the Gwangju-Jeonnam Administrative Integration.

Through this announcement, the Jeonnam and Gwangju Offices of Education pledged four key commitments. First, both institutions will actively cooperate in the administrative integration, which will serve as a pillar for balanced national development. At the same time, they will jointly strive to ensure the autonomy, expertise, and political neutrality of education as stipulated in Article 31 of the Constitution, even throughout the integration process.
In addition, they will focus all efforts on nurturing future talent, the main drivers of regional development, by reflecting the voices of those in the educational field. To establish a concrete integration roadmap, they plan to form and officially operate the 'Gwangju-Jeonnam Educational Administration Integration Task Force.'
Kim Daejung, Superintendent of Education for Jeonnam, emphasized, "Gwangju and Jeonnam originally share the same roots. This major transformation through integration is an essential choice that can create a happier future for our children."
Lee Jungseon, Superintendent of Education for Gwangju, responded, "This meeting will become a historically significant milestone. We will achieve the best possible educational integration so that all members of the education community can guide children in a better environment without concerns about personnel instability."
Both offices plan to focus their administrative and political capabilities on opening a 'century-long vision' for educational development that matches the era of grand integration between Gwangju and Jeonnam, using this joint announcement as a starting point.
