"Nobel Committee States Prize Cannot Be Shared or Transferred: 'Trump Must Give Up'"

Award Decisions Are Permanent
Objections Not Accepted

The Nobel Committee has stated that once a Nobel Prize has been publicly announced, it cannot be revoked, shared, or transferred. This position was clarified after Maria Corina Machado, the Venezuelan opposition leader, expressed her desire to share her Nobel Peace Prize with U.S. President Donald Trump.

According to major international news outlets on January 10 (local time), the Norwegian Nobel Committee released a statement emphasizing, "Once the awarding of a Nobel Prize is announced, it cannot be revoked, shared, or transferred to another person. Once the announcement is made, the decision is permanent and no objections will be accepted." The committee also added that it does not comment on the actions or statements of laureates after the award has been granted.

Although the committee did not mention Machado by name, the statement appears to be in response to her recent remarks about the possibility of sharing the Nobel Peace Prize with President Trump. Previously, in a Fox News interview on January 5, Machado stated, "Awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to President Trump would be a gesture of gratitude from the Venezuelan people for the ousting of President Nicolas Maduro."

This statement came just two days after the United States conducted a military operation on January 3 to arrest President Maduro of Venezuela and extradite him to the United States. Immediately following Maduro's extradition, Machado and other members of the Venezuelan opposition welcomed his removal from power.

In response, President Trump said on January 8, "I know that is what she wants to do," adding, "It would be a great honor."

Receiving the Nobel Peace Prize has long been an open aspiration for President Trump. Some have even speculated that because Machado received the Nobel Peace Prize, President Trump does not support her as the next leader of Venezuela.

Meanwhile, Machado was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize last year in recognition of her efforts to fight for democracy against President Maduro's dictatorship.
