LG Innotek President Moon Hyuksu: "Mass Production of Robot Components This Year, Commercialization of Glass Substrates by 2028"

Mass Production of Humanoid Vision and Actuator Components Begins This Year
Commercialization of Glass Core Package Solution Set for 2028
Expansion of Autonomous Driving Cameras and Wireless Integrated Solutions

LG Innotek is accelerating its efforts to secure a leading position in future markets by starting mass production of humanoid robot components this year, commercializing next-generation glass substrates by 2028, and realizing integrated autonomous driving solutions ahead of schedule. The company aims to transform itself from a simple component manufacturer into a "solution provider" that combines hardware and software, with the goal of increasing the share of new businesses to 25% by 2030.

On the 7th (local time), Moon Hyuksu, President of LG Innotek, gave an interview at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, USA, stating, "Robotic technology is already with us, and industrial humanoid robots, in particular, will be deployed in the field much faster than household robots." He added, "We are already generating sales in the tens of billions of won from related components, and we have begun full-scale mass production starting this year."

He explained that, compared to household robots, industrial robots that perform simple repetitive and complex tasks are already at a level where immediate application is possible. LG Innotek is currently working with global leaders such as Boston Dynamics in the United States to jointly develop vision sensing systems, which serve as the "eyes" of robots, and is securing a leading position in the market. In particular, LG Innotek is mass-producing core components for implementing physical AI, such as actuators and tactile sensors, and plans to supply them as integrated solutions that combine software, rather than as individual components, to create a high-profit business structure.

The company also revealed a clear timeline for the next-generation glass substrate (Glass Core), considered a key semiconductor substrate. President Moon stated, "Product development has already been completed, and we have finished installing equipment and establishing a prototype line at the Magok R&D Center. We are accelerating efforts to begin mass production in 2028 in collaboration with global big tech companies." He announced plans to focus on the package solution sector, including the glass substrate business, to achieve sales of 3 trillion won by 2030 and develop it into a revenue source comparable to the optical solution business. President Moon expressed technical confidence, saying, "Whoever solves the issue of glass cracking first will lead the market."

Regarding autonomous driving, he asserted that commercialization is virtually imminent. He said, "Now, it's a matter of who can move faster and at a lower cost," and highlighted LG Innotek's proprietary wireless technology as a key differentiator. At this year's CES, LG Innotek unveiled an integrated solution that combines 16 types of autonomous driving components. In particular, the company showcased convergence sensing solutions that integrate proprietary software, such as the "Active Cleaning Camera," which removes foreign substances from the lens in just one second, and the "Heating Camera," to differentiate its technology. In addition, by utilizing wireless control technology, LG Innotek aims to drastically reduce the heavy and complex wire harnesses inside vehicles, allowing additional batteries to be installed in the freed-up space and maximizing the efficiency of electric vehicles-a solution targeted at global automakers.

Since his recent promotion to president, Moon has been accelerating the restructuring of the business model from components to solution-oriented operations, including renaming business units to Package Solutions and Mobility Solutions. President Moon stated, "We will go beyond simply selling hardware to deliver differentiated value through solutions," and added, "To achieve the previously announced goal of raising the share of new business sales to 25% by 2030, we will establish a business portfolio focused on high profitability."
