On January 10, the 1st Criminal Division of the Daegu District Court Western Branch (Presiding Judge Do Jeongwon) sentenced Mr. A (33), who was indicted on charges of attempted murder and stalking, to eight years in prison and ordered him to complete 80 hours of a stalking treatment program.
Mr. A was brought to trial on charges of breaking into the residence of the victim, Mr. B (40), located in Dalseong-gun, Daegu, in February last year, and inflicting injuries requiring four weeks of treatment by stabbing him in the neck and other areas with a weapon.
It was found that Mr. A entered Mr. B's home by entering the front door password and used a weapon he had prepared in advance.
According to the investigation, Mr. A planned the crime after receiving a breakup notice from his mistress, Ms. C (30), whom he met while working at the same company. She told him, "I will return to my family, so do not contact me anymore."
Even after being detained in prison following the crime, Mr. A continued to send letters to his mistress containing messages such as "It seems there are more than one or two things we need to discuss," and is also charged with stalking.
The court stated, "The victim requires rehabilitation treatment for six to twelve months and has suffered serious physical harm, with the possibility of a lifelong disability not being ruled out. Taking into account that the victims have not forgiven the defendant, among other factors, we have determined the sentence accordingly."
