Goseong County, Gangwon Province to Hold 2026 Major Work Plan Briefing Centered on Eight Key Strategies
Goseong County, Gangwon Province, will hold a 2026 County Administration Major Work Plan Briefing Session in the county office from January 13 to 16, with department heads and team leaders in attendance.
Under the vision of "Goseong: Center of Peace and Hopeful Future," the briefing will focus on eight key strategies: establishing systematic tourism infrastructure by region, revitalizing the local economy in ways that residents can feel, fostering local talent for shared growth, realizing welfare through care and sharing, expanding safe and pleasant welfare infrastructure, creating competitive agricultural and fishing villages, achieving a sustainable environment and circular economy, and preparing for a peaceful future era through proactive measures. The direction of county administration will be shared around these strategies.
To build systematic tourism infrastructure by region, the county plans to leverage local characteristics and resources to enhance tourism industry competitiveness and create new growth engines for the local economy. Projects include the construction of the DMZ Ecological Observation Deck, the HwaJinpo Marine Nuri-gil Trail, the development of Songjiho as a tourism resource in the northern East Sea region, and the creation of a wide-area marine tourism complex district.
In addition, to restore the local economy in a way that all residents-including traditional market merchants, small business owners, and the self-employed-can truly feel, the county will implement field-oriented economic revitalization policies. These include support for small businesses, traditional markets, and SMEs, operation of youth support programs, and fostering specialized industries based on local deep-sea water resources.
To systematically nurture talent who will learn, grow, and lead the future within the region, the county will create an environment where education and culture are organically connected. Efforts will be made to operate career and academic guidance and future talent development programs, establish an efficient lifelong learning system, and expand the foundation for cultural enjoyment through the promotion of local arts and culture.
Furthermore, to ensure that no resident is marginalized at any stage of life, the county will focus on realizing welfare through care and sharing by building welfare infrastructure that includes vulnerable groups, providing high-quality and sustainable welfare services, and promoting integrated care projects, thereby creating a welfare city characterized by attentive care and consideration.
To reduce regional disparities and improve living convenience, the county will gradually expand balanced urban and living infrastructure. This will be achieved through projects to improve living conditions for vulnerable groups, promote urban regeneration, and establish management systems capable of proactive response.
To strengthen the income base of agricultural and fishing villages and establish a sustainable growth structure, the county will actively pursue the construction of agricultural product processing and distribution centers, support the introduction of foreign seasonal workers, comprehensively strengthen wildfire response capabilities to achieve zero major wildfires, and promote projects to revitalize fishing villages.
To establish a circular economy system where environmental conservation and economic growth are balanced, the county will simultaneously implement sustainable environmental policies such as the Songjiho ecosystem restoration project, support for new and renewable energy convergence projects, and maintenance of priority management areas for sewage systems.
Alongside these efforts, the county will focus its administrative resources on key pending projects to proactively respond to government policies and lay the foundation for future growth. These projects include the creation of the HwaJinpo National Marine Ecological Park, the connection of the Sokcho-Goseong Expressway, the establishment of the Goseong Peace Economy Special Zone, and the construction of vital hub facilities in border areas.
A Goseong County official stated, "2026 will be a crucial turning point for Goseong to take another leap forward as a hub city of the peace economy," adding, "We will prioritize the lives of our residents and concentrate all administrative capabilities on restoring the local economy, achieving balanced regional development, and establishing a foundation for sustainable growth."
