"KOSPI Starts Lower and Fluctuates in Weak Range Amid Foreign and Institutional Selling"

Due to simultaneous net selling by foreign investors and institutions, the KOSPI index started lower and has been fluctuating within a weak range.


As of 9:30 a.m. on January 8, the KOSPI index was trading at 4,536.22, down 14.84 points (0.33%) from the previous trading day. The index opened at 4,531.46, down 19.60 points (0.43%). Foreign investors have net sold 229 billion won, and institutions have net sold 288.3 billion won. Individual investors are net buying 502.6 billion won.

By industry, transportation equipment and parts (2.98%), machinery and equipment (1.24%), transportation and storage (0.96%), pharmaceuticals (0.63%), and manufacturing (0.51%) have risen. On the other hand, insurance (-1.83%), medical precision instruments (-1.31%), IT services (-1.18%), entertainment and culture (-1.15%), textiles and apparel (-1.07%), and finance (-0.72%) are declining.


Among the top KOSPI stocks by market capitalization, Hanwha Aerospace (7.03%), Hanwha Ocean (7.01%), HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (5.39%), Samsung Biologics (1.25%), and Doosan Enerbility (0.83%) have risen. In contrast, Samsung Life Insurance (-2.78%), NAVER (-2.18%), Kia (-2.17%), LG Energy Solution (-1.35%), and Samsung Electronics Preferred (-1.26%) are showing weakness.


At the same time, the KOSDAQ index was at 945.70, down 1.69 points (0.18%) from the previous trading day. The KOSDAQ opened at 950.71, up 3.32 points (0.35%). Foreign investors have net sold 59.8 billion won, and institutions have net sold 100 million won. Individual investors are buying 62.5 billion won.


Among the top KOSDAQ stocks by market capitalization, PharmaResearch (6.36%), EO Technics (3.58%), D&D Pharmatech (2.33%), Peptron (2.03%), Aimed Bio (2.04%), ABL Bio (1.90%), Samchundang Pharm (1.57%), LegoChem Biosciences (1.29%), Alteogen (1.17%), and Leeno Industrial (1.09%) are strong performers. In contrast, HLB (-4.97%), Rainbow Robotics (-3.97%), Robotis (-3.34%), Wonik IPS (-1.01%), and Voronoi (-0.98%) are showing weakness.
