On January 7, Park Gangsu, Mayor of Mapo District, announced the district’s new year policy direction at the “2026 Mapo District New Year’s Meeting” held at the Mapo Art Center.
The event was attended by more than 2,000 people, including Mayor Park Gangsu, heads of related organizations in the district, and representatives of local residents. Seoul Mayor Oh Sehoon also attended and exchanged New Year’s greetings with Mapo District residents.

Mayor Park stated, “An hour of the mayor’s time is equivalent to gathering an hour from each of Mapo’s 360,000 residents,” and added, “I have been working in the field with the determination not to waste a single moment.”
He cited the expansion of the “Filial Dining Table” and “Grassroots Welfare Centers,” the creation of “Space,” a self-directed study area for youth, the “Babysitter House” for Mapo-style childcare, and “Anyone Caf?,” a policy supporting the independence of people with disabilities, as past achievements. He also mentioned tourism and cultural arts policies centered on Red Road, as well as neighborhood revitalization initiatives such as the Mapo Circular Train Bus and the Mapo Mutual Growth App.
Mayor Park declared, “We will fully leverage Mapo’s strength as the district that embraces the longest stretch of the Han River by actively promoting the ‘Mapo Riverside 8.2 Project.’” He continued, “We will also steadily pursue the creation of a youth- and AI-centered ‘K-Silicon Valley,’ the development of a landscape waterfall and riverside caf? at World Cupcheon, and the operation of a Mapo District residents’ resort.”
He emphasized, “Administration cannot come to a halt,” and said, “Without losing my original resolve, I will quietly continue to move toward an era of happiness for our residents, always striving to make Mapo new and better.”
The event featured a celebratory performance by the National Police Symphony Orchestra, New Year’s greeting videos from Mapo’s sister cities-Gochang County, Ongjin County, and Nam District in Busan-as well as a video of residents’ New Year wishes and a New Year’s performance.
