A brief cold snap is expected to hit the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions tomorrow, with morning temperatures dropping to around minus 5 degrees Celsius due to the influence of cold air moving southward from the northwest.
According to the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration on January 7, morning temperatures in most areas of Gwangju and Jeonnam on the 8th will be 3 to 7 degrees lower than the previous day, resulting in cold conditions. Winds are also expected to be somewhat strong, making it feel even colder than the actual temperature.
The forecast for tomorrow predicts morning lows between minus 7 and minus 1 degrees Celsius, and daytime highs between 2 and 5 degrees Celsius. According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, this cold spell will continue until the morning of the 9th, after which temperatures will rise above seasonal averages from the afternoon and the cold will gradually ease.
Due to the influence of a trough of low pressure, less than 0.1 centimeters of snow or less than 0.1 millimeters of rain may fall on the west coast of Jeonnam during the morning of the 8th. Strong winds with gusts up to 15 meters per second are expected throughout Gwangju and Jeonnam, and up to 20 meters per second in mountainous areas.
In particular, the eastern part of Jeonnam, including Yeosu, Gwangyang, and Suncheon, continues to experience very dry atmospheric conditions.
A Korea Meteorological Administration official advised, "As morning temperatures will drop sharply tomorrow, please take care of your health," and added, "In areas where a dry weather advisory has been issued, please exercise special caution to prevent wildfires and various types of fires, including refraining from burning trash."
