Aekyung Industrial has initiated a voluntary recall of six types of Chinese-made toothpaste after detecting a preservative ingredient that is banned for use in oral care products. The company has placed the highest priority on customer safety, immediately halting the import and distribution of the affected products and deciding to recall all units regardless of their manufacturing date.

"Trusted 'National Toothpaste'... Why Is All Chinese-Made '2080 Toothpaste' Being Recalled?" Products subject to recall. Aekyung Industrial

According to Aekyung Industrial on January 7, the products subject to recall are six types of toothpaste manufactured by Domy in China and imported and sold by Aekyung Industrial: 2080 Basic Toothpaste, 2080 Daily Care Toothpaste, 2080 Smart Care Plus Toothpaste, 2080 Classic Care Toothpaste, 2080 Triple Effect Alpha Fresh Toothpaste, and 2080 Triple Effect Alpha Strong Toothpaste.

Banned ingredient detected in internal inspection... Immediate recall decision

Aekyung Industrial stated that during its internal quality inspection process in December of last year, it discovered trace amounts of the preservative triclosan in some of the affected products. Triclosan is an ingredient banned for use in toothpaste and other oral care products in Korea.

Upon confirming this fact, the company immediately suspended the import and distribution of the products and reported its voluntary recall plan to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. Aekyung Industrial explained, "We have decided to recall all six types of products in their entirety, regardless of manufacturing date, as customer safety is our top priority."

"No issues with domestically produced toothpaste"

Aekyung Industrial emphasized, "Aside from the products subject to this recall, all other toothpaste products we sell are manufactured domestically and have no issues with quality or ingredients."

Consumers who possess the affected products can apply for a recall regardless of the manufacturing date, place of purchase, date of purchase, whether the product has been used, or whether they have a receipt. From January 5, applications can be submitted through the dedicated Aekyung Industrial toothpaste recall customer center (080-051-1577) or the company website, and the full purchase amount will be refunded.

In an official statement, Aekyung Industrial said, "We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and concern this incident has caused our customers," adding, "All of our employees are making every effort to resolve the issue." The company further stated, "We will use this as an opportunity to thoroughly review our quality control and the entire production process to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future."
