Department of Emergency Medical Services
Extracurricular Nighttime Patient Response Program
The Department of Emergency Medical Services at Dong-Eui Science University conducted nighttime emergency response training for its students.
Dong-Eui Science University (President Kim Youngdo) announced on January 7 that the Department of Emergency Medical Services held an extracurricular program titled "Nighttime Patient Emergency Response Training" on December 19, aimed at strengthening students' on-site response capabilities.
This training was a practice-oriented program simulating real nighttime emergency situations. Under the guidance of four active paramedics, 43 first-year students from the Department of Emergency Medical Services participated. The students carried out the entire emergency response process-including patient search and assessment, emergency care, and hospital handover-at a simulated site set up within the university building.
The training was conducted under the scenario of a mass casualty incident caused by an earthquake. Students formed teams and, in conditions of limited visibility and urgency, searched for patients (mannequins), conducted primary and secondary assessments, and then handed over patient information to the hospital.
The program focused on improving situational judgment and team-based response skills, reflecting the unique challenges of nighttime emergencies. The active paramedics provided group feedback before and after the training, explaining practical standards for patient assessment and emergency care procedures.
Park Youngsoo, head of the department, stated, "We plan to enhance students' practical skills through extracurricular training programs that reflect real on-site situations."
