Leveraging Expertise in Marine Tourism to Support Key Projects
Securing 535.1 Billion Won in Government Funding
Actions spoke louder than words, and execution took precedence over slogans. Jang Jinwon, Vice Mayor of Boryeong and former Director of the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Bureau of South Chungcheong Province, has laid the foundation for Boryeong's "1 trillion won budget era" over the past year by leveraging his expertise in marine tourism and hands-on administrative approach to turn major pending issues into tangible results.
According to Boryeong City on January 7, Vice Mayor Jang, who took office in January last year, made "communication" the starting point of his administration from the very beginning.
He frequently visited key project sites and locations where civil complaints arose, identifying core issues on the ground and accelerating administrative processes through swift coordination and execution that went beyond mere reporting.
In particular, he meticulously inspected every stage of the Boryeong Mud Festival to ensure its successful hosting, and provided unwavering administrative support to ensure that Boryeong’s core marine tourism projects-such as the Oseom Islands development and preparations for the Island Biennale-proceeded without setbacks.
Vice Mayor Jang made multiple trips between government ministries and South Chungcheong Province to secure funding and resolve key issues. As a result, he played a crucial role in securing 535.1 billion won in government funding this year, ushering in the era of a 1 trillion won budget for Boryeong City.
He also emphasized systematic and strategic approaches in responding to various public project bids, reorganizing practical operations to increase the likelihood of success.
Vice Mayor Jang focused on practical improvements by monitoring issues across all sectors, including safety management, welfare, and the local economy.
He encouraged departments with high volumes of civil complaints and stressed open communication by inviting staff to visit the vice mayor’s office for discussions at any time, thereby earning the trust of public officials.
Vice Mayor Jang said, "Looking back on my first year in office, I truly feel that Boryeong stands at a pivotal moment, preparing for a new leap forward and an energy transition," adding, "I will continue to enhance the quality of our policies so that citizens can feel real change in their daily lives, and I will do my utmost to ensure Boryeong shines even brighter."
Originally from Seosan, Vice Mayor Jang began his public service career in 1990 and has built extensive administrative experience and leadership skills through roles such as General Affairs Officer and Public Relations Officer at the South Chungcheong Provincial Council Secretariat, as well as Director of the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Bureau.
