Game Developers Gather Nationwide... Dongseo University RISE Project Group Concludes Game Jam "Deep Dive"

Students from 11 Universities Nationwide, Local Game Companies Participate
Expanding the Game Industry Ecosystem Based at Centum Campus

Dongseo University (President Jang Jeguk) RISE Project Group recently concluded the Game Jam "Deep Dive" as part of the "CENTUM Open UIC (COU) Game GIGA Project" at the Dongseo University Global Village.

The COU (CENTUM Open UIC) program, which served as the foundation for this event, is a core model of the Dongseo University RISE project, based at the Centum Campus. It brings together universities, research institutes, and companies to collaborate, integrating education, R&D, entrepreneurship, and large-scale projects in the fields of cultural tourism and digital technology, thereby driving regional growth.

The Game Jam Deep Dive brought together more than 120 students from game-related departments at 11 universities nationwide-including Dongseo University, Pusan National University, Pukyong National University, Dong-Eui University, Silla University, Dong-A University, Gyeongsang National University, University of Ulsan, Gachon University, University of Incheon, and Seoul Hoseo Vocational College-along with over 20 local game developers.

Eight leading game companies-Magic Cube, Zombie Mate, Park ESM, CPlay, Level B, Milestone Games, Guseog-e Gamja Jjamppong, and Smilegate Orange Planet-participated as mentors, enhancing the on-site experience. Drawing on two years of mentoring experience, these companies provided students with efficient technical support throughout the development process and practical feedback, helping participants strengthen their hands-on skills.

Prior to the event, on December 23, Dongseo University, Pusan National University, Pukyong National University, Dong-A University, Dong-Eui University, and Silla University signed a "CENTUM Open UIC Game GIGA Project - Game Jam Deep Dive Joint Operation Agreement," establishing a framework for sharing and collaboration among local universities.

The games developed during this Game Jam will be uploaded to global online platforms such as Zempie and ITCH.IO and released to the public. The Dongseo University RISE Project Group plans to provide ongoing support so that the event does not end as a one-off, aiming to help participants achieve actual startups and project expansion, similar to the successful "Sohee" startup project from the Dongseo University Department of Game Studies.

Lee Donghun, Dean of the College of Media Contents, stated, "Students and professional developers from across the country were able to build essential skills required in the field by working day and night to bring their ideas to life. We focused on enhancing the technical quality of the innovative games created by participants so they can be competitive in the global market."

Professor Lee Hyundong (Department of Computer Engineering), head of the RISE Project's COU-based Busan Shared University Platform, said, "This hackathon broke down barriers between universities and allowed companies and students to communicate directly and experience a practical, work-oriented game development environment. Through the CENTUM Open UIC model, we will foster creative talent to lead the future of the local game industry and establish a virtuous cycle that leads to actual startups."
