On the afternoon of the same day, Shinhan Financial Group and the National Police Agency held the 5th Heroes of the Common Economy Awards ceremony at the Police Agency Harmony Square in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul. This awards ceremony has been held annually since July 2021 as part of a business agreement between Shinhan Financial Group and the National Police Agency to eradicate financial crimes affecting people's livelihoods.
This year, five police officers were recognized for apprehending illegal private loan organizations that lured victims with high-interest loans and for cracking down on investment fraud rings impersonating fake investment experts. In addition, five citizens, including bank employees who detected forged contracts and stamps at bank counters and delayed the payment of checks, were also selected as awardees.
Jin Okdong, Chairman of Shinhan Financial Group, and Yoo Jaeseong, Acting Commissioner General of the National Police Agency, attended the event and presented each awardee with a commendation or certificate of appreciation from the National Police Agency, as well as a prize of 3 million won per person.
Chairman Jin stated, "Voice phishing crimes are becoming increasingly sophisticated, but thanks to the courageous decisions and actions of these heroes, we have been able to protect our neighbors' valuable assets. Shinhan Financial Group will continue to fulfill its social responsibility to prevent financial fraud and provide relief for victims."
Including this ceremony, Shinhan Financial Group has selected a total of 49 heroes over the past five years. In September of last year, the group received designation from the Financial Services Commission as an innovative financial service for introducing the first-ever joint response model in the financial sector, in which major subsidiaries share real-time information on suspected voice phishing cases.
