Short-form dramas are emerging as a new pathway for rookie actors to enter the global content market. With their brief running times, short-form content allows actors to leave a strong impression with their characters and personalities, and gains competitiveness by rapidly reaching international audiences through a variety of platforms.
Amid this trend, Taewon Art Media is holding a public audition to select rookie actors who will challenge the global stage through the joint global short-form drama "Somtam Guesthouse."
This project is a global short-form drama jointly produced by Taewon Art Media and WMC Production, with MFlow Entertainment-producer of the drama "My Stubborn," which ranked first for six consecutive weeks on the Chinese OTT platform IQIYI-participating as a joint investor and producer.
"Somtam Guesthouse" is a youth romance genre set in a guesthouse, depicting love, friendship, and personal growth. The entire series will be filmed on overseas locations, aiming to capture both an exotic atmosphere and a sense of realism.
The series will be directed by Kim Sanghoon, who previously directed the drama "Crime Puzzle," and produced by Kim Uiseok, who has worked on numerous projects including "Secret Affair" and "The Yellow Sea."
The audition process consists of two stages. The first stage is a document review, in which actors Choi Guihwa, Lee Pilmo, and Moon Jihoo will assess the potential and possibilities of rookie actors. The second and final audition will be led by director Kim Sanghoon and producer Kim Uiseok, who will comprehensively evaluate the candidates' suitability for the characters and their global competitiveness.
The actors selected in the final round will appear as main or supporting cast members in "Somtam Guesthouse." After the release of the series, they will also be given priority opportunities to participate in a variety of new media projects produced by Taewon Art Media, including construction advertisements, branded content, domestic and international dramas and films, YouTube, and short-form content.
Lee Dabin, Head of Taewon Art Media, stated, "This public audition is a project designed with a global co-production structure and overseas distribution in mind," adding, "It will be a meaningful opportunity for rookie actors who wish to enter the global market through short-form content."
Applications for the audition can be submitted through the official Taewon Art Media website.
