Absence Without Notice Triggers Phone and Home Visit Verification
The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education will conduct a preliminary enrollment session for children preparing to enter elementary school next year. If a guardian fails to attend without prior notice, a verification process involving local authorities and the police will be initiated.
The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education announced that public elementary schools will hold the "2026 Elementary School Freshmen Preliminary Enrollment Session" over two days, January 5 and 6.
This preliminary session is intended for children born between January 1 and December 31, 2019, as well as for children who have not yet entered elementary school due to deferred admission or postponed enrollment from the previous year. Guardians of children eligible for enrollment must visit the designated school with their child on the assigned day, receive guidance regarding admission, and complete the registration process.
If it is difficult to attend the preliminary session due to unavoidable circumstances, guardians must contact the school in advance to receive separate instructions. If the guardian does not attend the session without prior notice, the city office of education and the relevant local government will verify the child's safety through phone calls and home visits. If necessary, further measures will be taken according to the child protection system, including requesting an investigation by the local police station.
The city office of education plans to use this preliminary session to check the status of children eligible for enrollment and to support new students so that they can begin school life safely and smoothly. Superintendent Lee Jeongseon stated, "The preliminary enrollment session is a process to ensure children's safety and help them prepare for elementary school life," and urged guardians to "be sure to participate with your child during the designated period."
